Home Rule is defined as the transfer of power from State to local governments for the purpose of facilitating self governance. It allows the Village to adopt fees, taxes, and regulations that are not otherwise prohibited by the State. The Village has had Home Rule status since 2004. The Village hopes to provide its residents with factual information regarding Home Rule by consolidating articles, charts, graphs, and other resources into one location. In addition, the Village held several home rule educational presentations at locations throughout the Village prior to the March 20th, 2018 referendum on the Village’s Home Rule status.
